Our Gold Community status expires in 25 days (22/10 or thereabouts). I think the absence of popups has proved its worth, and that we should pay the $60 for a full year's popup-free ezboard service. I have no idea whether the treasury would stump up for this, but reckon that we should put the hat round to raise the dosh to get this sorted asap, then worry about the treasury later. What do you all think then?
PS. I do think that we ought to move fast on this one. Our remaining three and a half weeks will be over before we know it, as happens with this sort of thing. I would talk to the committee before asking for the funds. There may be developments underway in regards to websites.

I am all for it. I don't want to go back to the days of having a constant stream of pop-ups thrown at me. Its either that or we buy our own webspace.

F**k those pop-ups, and the b******s who wrote them- they're worse than ever now. We have to get rid of them again. I favour the 1-year option myself- it's a bit cheaper it seems, and it gives us more time to think about if we want an alternative. I've just checked the exchange rates and this option would cost us £40 or less, which is less than a pound a week, which is not too bad to be going on with IMO. If the treasury is able to stump up then all well and good, but there's no reason why we couldn't take up a collection from forum members.
So, how are we going to do this then? |

im with John on this one, If the other regular forum posters are up for it, we could all chip in a couple of quid each and rid ourselves of these damn pop ups.

What are the supposed "things happening to websites" that Freddy keeps going on about? The committee members should know, shouldn't they?
 If we are keeping this website and the Treasury aren't willing to support it, then why doesn't someone of authority i.e. the webmaster (sorry for volunteering you Gav, but don't you have to be present to pay for the thing), gather up a collection on a Tuesday night? This shouldn't be too much of a problem as most people seem happy to cough up a couple of pounds for the cause. We need $54 for 12 months, which someone (I think it was John) worked it out to be £30. So that's 15 donations of £2. Can we name 15 regular forum members? (I've got a list here but I don't know whether I should post it - don't want to annoy anyone). Anything but a one... It's a one! But I've got a reroll... OK that's a one too!! |

It's nearer £40 actually Zen, but still not too much. We're still talking donations in the area of £3-5 depending on how many forum members step up to donate. Another point is that we might get some money from the Treasury and have to raise the rest from among the users. Half say.

These supposed 'things' ZTM are that we are looking into the possibility of hosting our own website owned by the club not an individual.
Next time just ask me I will generally tell you. Its been mentioned at the club often enough. Y'see this site is own by Gav and as such is technically not a full club resource, yes i know before anyone says, that we use it as such but at the end of the day, Gav is responsible for this. The club is looking into getting its owned, now i'm not sure what's currently happening with this as it fell by the wayside for a bit but we will get back to you. I would ask if I ever saw you and remembered to speak to you about it at the same time, you are approachable after all  When was it mentioned at the club, was it fully discussed with the membership (if it was at the agm, I appologise I must of dozed off)? Its an idea in formation at the moment, it hasn't been raised fully at the club because it hasn't been fully proposed yet. At the moment its just chat, throwing of ideas.
so it probably wont be in the immediate future. It came about because the club needs to have full ownership of the site it is affilliated with for various reasons (costings, control issues, input etc) At the moment we are very grateful for GAV doing this but at the end of the day, its his site and there will probably come a time when issues arise, im not saying it will happen, only it could (and no im not planning on causing any trouble along these lines!)
